Tree Root Sewer Line Risk Checker
Use this free checker to estimate whether recurring sewer problems could be consistent with tree root intrusion. It looks at recurrence, tree proximity, older sewer lines, previous root removal, backup patterns, and whether cleaning provides only temporary relief.
This tool cannot confirm roots inside a sewer line. A sewer camera inspection is usually needed to visually confirm root intrusion and evaluate whether the pipe itself is damaged.
Signs Tree Roots May Be Affecting a Sewer Line
Tree roots are more plausible when a sewer problem is recurring rather than isolated, especially where mature trees are near the line and the pipe has joints, cracks, or other openings that roots can enter.
- Main-line clogs that keep returning
- Prior root removal or camera-confirmed root intrusion
- Several fixtures slowing or backing up together
- Temporary improvement after cleaning followed by another blockage
- Older sewer piping near mature trees
- Recurring backups during heavier wastewater flow
Can Hydro Jetting Remove Tree Roots?
Hydro jetting may help remove some root material and associated buildup when the pipe condition is suitable, but it does not repair the opening that allowed roots to enter. If roots keep returning, the underlying pipe condition matters.
Why Camera Inspection Matters
A sewer camera inspection can help confirm whether roots are visible and whether there are cracks, separated joints, offsets, or other pipe conditions that may be contributing to recurring intrusion.
